Freelancing is not easy. Being productive when working solo can be tough. So, how do you ensure that you achieve success? By staying determined, beating procrastination and working efficiently. Read on to find out the daily habits of successful freelancers.
1) Treat freelancing as your business:
You might have started freelancing because you wanted to indulge your passion. However, you must treat it like a business rather than a hobby. Get organized, be structured and meet deadlines. The best way to do this is to get into a daily routine of working even if you don’t have clients just yet. It is all too easy to slack off when you don’t have to go to an office. But this is the wrong attitude and is a sure fire method to failure.
2) Make a Task List:
Each night, after you finish your assignments, jot down your tasks for the next day. Doing this will help you plan ahead and help you
utilize your day better. In case you have some free time the next day, write down something to do which will be productive for you. It could be doing research for an upcoming assignment. Or it could be checking out that webinar you have saved. Don’t spend free time in your schedule by aimlessly watching cat videos on YouTube. Make every minute count.
3) Write a long-term financial goal down on paper and stick it on a wall in front of you:
Doing this will help you stay motivated when you are having a lean period. It will also keep you hungry for more and not rest on your laurels after completing a successful assignment. Wake up in the morning and look at that piece of paper to kick start your day and not lose focus.
4) Look for new clients constantly:
Successful freelancers do not put all eggs in a single basket. They always are on the lookout for new clients, and you should do the same. Even if you have a couple of regular clients, don’t relax. After all, you never know when they might decide that their project is over. Dedicate a third of your time each day to look out for new clients.
5) Take care of your health:
It is all too easy to become a workaholic, especially when you don’t get a regular paycheck each month. Make some time each day to get some physical exercise. Try some meditation, play a sport, or go for a swim each day. Be sure to sleep a minimum of 7 hours each night, eat healthily and schedule some time away from your desk. Following these steps will help you stay physically and mentally fit as well.
Even though being a freelancer might seem to be very easy. It is actually quite tough. Be dedicated, self-disciplined and work hard. Incorporating the above habits in your daily routine will help you achieve success.
